Position Summary – Fine Arts Cataloger / Art Specialist
In this role, the Art Cataloger / Specialist will play a key part in the continued growth of the Fine Arts department at William Bunch Auctions. The position focuses on cataloging and supporting sales in while contributing to the strength and consistency of both our Bi-Weekly Auctions and Quarterly Auctions.
The Art Cataloger / Specialist will be responsible for researching, writing, and preparing accurate catalog entries, while also supporting the development of long-term relationships with private collectors, institutions, and industry contacts. This role works collaboratively with senior specialists and management to identify quality consignments and help position property appropriately for auction.
The ideal candidate will also contribute to securing important consignments for additional Fine Arts sales categories including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, etc. While primary responsibilities center on cataloging and research, a strong interest in client interaction and consignment development is highly valued.

Requirements
Skills Required:
Ability to accurately evaluate, research, define, describe and estimate the auction value of a broad range of works of art across a broad range of values.
A working knowledge and familiarity with 19th-21st Century artists, with a focus on regionality as well as the ability to recognize and research items of special interest through consultation with experts, museum contacts, etc.
The ability to present both high value items and those of lesser value with care and respect with the goal of effectively achieving the highest value for clients.
The ability to meet with clients, discuss their items, determine potential value and salability, instill confidence and develop trusting and long-standing relationships.
The ability to generate new consignments by developing relationships with local client base, national accounts, large consignors, and major business targets for the department.
Collaborate with management and other Specialists to develop strategies to reach new potential consignors.
Responsible for work associated with the evaluation of property for the Fine Arts department for auction, researching authenticity, provenance and reviewing client inquiries to determine sale potential.
Education & Experience:
· 3-5 years of relevant experience
· Bachelor’s degree in fine art, art history, or arts management; not necessary but a plus.
Professionalism & Communication:
· Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong client service orientation with professionalism and discretion.
· Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up, multitasking, and time management abilities.
· Proficient in Google Sheets/Docs.
· Operate standard office equipment proficiently, including phones, computers, copiers, and other commonly used devices or software applications.
· Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal teams and external contacts.
· Understand and accurately process written materials and documentation.
· Able to thrive in fast-paced environments, work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
· Highly motivated and eager to contribute to a dynamic team.
Physical Needs:
· Perform light physical tasks, including lifting and moving items such as art boxes, files, and other materials up to 50 pounds, unless otherwise specified.
· Work efficiently in a traditional office environment, including extended periods of sitting, with the flexibility to adapt to various work settings as needed.
