The Role

The Associate Cataloger assists with all aspects of research, preparation, and production of all auction catalogs. This position will work exclusively with small fine & decorative arts.


This includes:


•Porcelain

•Pottery

•Silver

•Glass

•China

•Sculpture

•Toys

•Primitives

•General Antiques & Collectibles


Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and cataloging for a large  variety of works of different media, periods, genres, and price ranges

  • Prepare property for photography (lotting items, noting any special shots needed, etc)

  • Liaise with other staff including administrators, photographers, and  art handlers in executing all logistical aspects of each sale

  • Work with prospective bidders to help answer questions about lots as potential purchases

  • Review any authenticity concerns and execute condition reports in timely manner

  • Assist clients in the showroom during previews

  • Participate in Telephone Bidding with clients during the auction

Requirements

  • Expertise in fine & decorative arts, antiques and collectibles

  • A minimum of 2 years paid work experience in the field

  • Knowledge of the auction industry

  • Excellent research skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written

  • Commitment to an exemplary level of client service

  • Good time keeping, the ability to use time efficiently and to prioritise

  • A proven ability to meet hard deadlines

  • A strong understanding of Google Sheets / Docs

  • The ability to quickly adapt to new software environments

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to broaden knowledge



A Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred but not required.
