The Role
The Associate Cataloger assists with all aspects of research, preparation, and production of all auction catalogs. This position will work exclusively with small fine & decorative arts.
This includes:
•Porcelain
•Pottery
•Silver
•Glass
•China
•Sculpture
•Toys
•Primitives
•General Antiques & Collectibles
Responsibilities
Conduct research and cataloging for a large variety of works of different media, periods, genres, and price ranges
Prepare property for photography (lotting items, noting any special shots needed, etc)
Liaise with other staff including administrators, photographers, and art handlers in executing all logistical aspects of each sale
Work with prospective bidders to help answer questions about lots as potential purchases
Review any authenticity concerns and execute condition reports in timely manner
Assist clients in the showroom during previews
Participate in Telephone Bidding with clients during the auction
Requirements
Expertise in fine & decorative arts, antiques and collectibles
A minimum of 2 years paid work experience in the field
Knowledge of the auction industry
Excellent research skills and attention to detail
Ability to work well under pressure
Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written
Commitment to an exemplary level of client service
Good time keeping, the ability to use time efficiently and to prioritise
A proven ability to meet hard deadlines
A strong understanding of Google Sheets / Docs
The ability to quickly adapt to new software environments
Enthusiasm and willingness to broaden knowledge
A Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred but not required.
